BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Men's Soccer team could not bounce back from their season-opening loss a day ago, as the team fell to Cabrini College Sunday afternoon by the score 2-0.
The Hawks began the matchup in a similar fashion as yesterday's game, where the team came out strong defensively. Cabrini was held to only four shots in the first half, with Peter Plate (Commack, N.Y.) making a save.
A quick pair of second-half goals put the Roger Williams University Men's Soccer team in a 2-0 deficit which they could not overcome. Evan Hanauer (Royersford, Pa.) and Joe Rotan (Philadelphia, Pa.) each scored at the 51st and 53 minute, respectively, putting the Cavaliers ahead for good.
The Hawks did not give up, making a strong run throughout the rest of the half to try to knot the game. RWU put up six shots after the Cavaliers' second goal, but none could find the back of the net.
Cabrini's two wins gave them the title of tournament champion.
Chris Guerrini (Glastonbury, R.I.) and Dan Saccoccio (Holtsville, N.Y.) were named to the all-tournament team for RWU, while Hanauer and Domenick Rizzo (Trenton, N.J.) of Cabrini were named Offensive and Defensive MVP, respectively.
Roger Williams (0-2-0) will head to Providence Thursday afternoon to take on Rhode Island College, the one team the Hawks did not play in the tournament.
